The city mayor of Vyshhorod in Kyiv region, Oleksii Momot, has been officially charged with misappropriating over 6.6 million hryvnias of municipal funds.

According to information from the National Police and the Office of the General Prosecutor, the suspect abused his official position by engaging in corruption schemes aimed at embezzling budget money.

Investigations reveal that Momot signed a contract for the purchase of two excavators costing over 7.8 million hryvnias, with their prices artificially inflated by more than 800 thousand hryvnias each.

This resulted in a loss of approximately 1.6 million hryvnias for the city budget.

Additionally, in another episode, the same contractor carried out current repairs on a wastewater treatment pond on one of the city streets, using falsified documents to inflate the scope of work and the resources involved, leading to another 5 million hryvnias in losses.

Overall, more than 50 million hryvnias from the state budget were allocated for repairs and construction works.

To circumvent public tender laws, the procurement was divided into parts, and direct contracts were signed with allied firms without electronic bidding.

Momot and the director of the company are charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with potential prison sentences up to 12 years, loss of certain civil rights for three years, and confiscation of assets.

The issue of pre-trial measures for the suspects is currently being decided.
