Orbán Accuses Zelensky of Moral Blackmail Over Ukraine’s EU Accession
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has openly accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of attempting to impose his will on other countries through tactics of moral blackmail.
According to Orbán, Zelensky seeks to decide what is best for Hungary and employs a form of psychological pressure to force other nations into supporting his military efforts and Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
These remarks were made via his social media account on X, emphasizing that Hungary has no moral obligation to support such policies, as EU membership is decided unanimously and cannot be achieved through blackmail.Orbán also claimed that, based on his information, the Hungarian people have overwhelmingly expressed their opposition to Ukraine joining the EU in a recent referendum.
He urged the international community to consider the will of the Hungarian nation.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the media campaign against Hungary, which Zelensky allegedly conducts, is an unproductive tactic that is unlikely to foster friendly relations. The Hungarian premier warned that such actions could lead to unexpected alliances in the effort to prevent Ukraine’s speedy accession to European institutions, complicating the integration process.
He also stated that Ukraine is supposedly financially supported by Europe and lacks full sovereignty, making its EU membership pursuit even more problematic.
