Ministry of Energy Blocks ‘Ukrenergo’ Leadership Dismissal Through Court: New Legal Battle in Ukraine’s Energy Sector
Recent developments in Ukraine’s energy sector have once again brought public and expert attention to the ongoing tense conflict between the Ministry of Energy and the management of state-owned ‘Ukrenergo’.
According to information published on September 29 by the Kyiv Commercial Court, the Ministry of Energy resorted to judicial measures to prevent the dismissal of Vitaliy Zaichenko and members of the company’s board.
The court decision explicitly prohibits all state registrars from performing registration actions based on the supervisory board’s decision of September 26, effectively obstructing the removal of the leadership through official registration procedures.
This move follows the supervisory board’s decision to dismiss Zaichenko and others due to procedural violations during previous appointments and loss of trust.
The ruling raises questions about legal legitimacy and the future of personnel changes within the company, casting uncertainty over the broader energy policy direction in Ukraine.
Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak highlighted that the court approved the Ministry’s request for interim relief, compelling all state registrars to refrain from registering any changes related to ‘Ukrenergo’s’ management decisions.
The decision has immediate legal effect and must be executed without delay, regardless of appeal.
The Ministry of Energy promptly responded to the supervisory board’s statement regarding the leadership change, promising to clarify its position soon.
The background indicates that on September 26, ‘Ukrenergo’ dismissed Zaichenko, citing procedural misconduct and a loss of confidence by the supervisory board—marks of a new phase in Ukraine’s energy governance with potentially significant consequences for sector stability and management.
