Ukraine Responds Strongly to Hungary’s Territorial Concessions Proposal for Peace
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has issued a passionate and firm response to the recent initiative by the Hungarian government, which suggests ceding Ukrainian territories to achieve peace.
The statements came amid frank criticism from Hungarian officials, notably State Secretary Levente Mádár, who proposed that Ukraine relinquish a fifth of its land.
Ukrainian diplomats emphasize that no compromises on sovereignty are acceptable, as doing so would threaten the nation’s integrity and security.
MFA spokesperson Georgiy Tkyhy took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) and stressed that Ukraine does not intend to trade its territory and urges the international community to reconsider supporting ideas that are incompatible with Ukrainian interests.
Meanwhile, Hungarian politicians and analysts continue to push the narrative that Ukraine should make painful concessions, citing historical examples.
For instance, Deputy Foreign Minister Levente Mádár, during a speech at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, argued that Ukraine should consider giving up part of its territory, drawing parallels with Hungary’s loss after the Treaty of Trianon following World War I.
These remarks have sparked widespread criticism from Ukrainian officials, who state that the country will never relinquish its territorial integrity under external pressure or historical envy.
Experts highlight that Hungary’s approach seems aimed more at propaganda and regional influence than at constructive peace initiatives.
The Ukrainian government remains committed to diplomatic negotiations but insists that sovereignty and territorial integrity will never be compromised.
