Zelensky Shows Flexibility on Ukraine’s Border in Case of Ceasefire, Emphasizes Diplomatic Resolution

Chas Pravdy - 26 September 2025 15:15

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced his stance regarding potential shifts in the country’s border line in the event of achieving a short-term ceasefire with Russia.

He emphasized that Ukraine officially does not recognize the occupied territories as Russian, yet remains open to a temporary agreement to the current frontline boundary if a ceasefire is declared tomorrow.

According to Zelensky, during a ceasefire, Ukraine might agree to a temporary border along the existing frontline, with plans to regain lost territories through diplomatic means in the future.

The president also stressed that acknowledging these territories as Russian-occupied lands is unacceptable and will never happen.

He highlighted that all diplomatic efforts should aim to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty with minimal casualties and losses, considering the current military balance and complex situation.

Zelensky added that if necessary, Ukraine is prepared for open negotiations to find the most optimal solution for the nation, balancing long-term national interests and the safety of its citizens.
