Kallas emphasizes Trump’s responsibility for supporting Ukraine: ‘He promised to stop the killings’
Amid recent statements and political remarks by Trump, a complex question arises regarding the role of the United States in supporting Ukraine and their responsibility in ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
European diplomat Kaja Kallas, who serves as the EU’s chief diplomat for external affairs, repeatedly stresses that the responsibility for stopping the bloodshed does not rest solely on Europe but also on the United States of America.
According to her, former President Donald Trump made a clear promise to cease hostilities, emphasizing that he personally took on the obligation to halt the violence and destruction.
This raises numerous questions about Trump’s changing stance and his intentions concerning Ukraine’s support in the ongoing war against Russia.
In his recent posts on Truth Social, the former president claimed that Ukraine has the capacity to reclaim all its territories independently, with support from the EU and NATO, which can employ Western weaponry as they see fit.
While European officials positively assessed Trump’s more supportive tone toward Ukraine, some warned that his words might indicate a desire to reduce U.S.
assistance and absolve Washington of responsibility for the conflict’s resolution.
Kallas emphasizes that NATO cannot exist without the U.S., and when discussing the alliance’s role, it specifically involves American contributions and actions.
Recently, Trump has intensified pressure on NATO members, demanding a complete halt to Russian oil and gas imports, framing this demand as a condition for further U.S.
sanctions and tariffs against Russia.
