SBU Strikes Again at Anti-Corruption Bodies: New Raids and Political Motives in the Shadows of a Scandal

Chas Pravdy - 25 September 2025 14:28

In Ukraine, politically motivated actions by law enforcement agencies continue to target the independence of anti-corruption institutions.

Recent events — raids conducted at the residences of former NABU officials, including individuals linked to the presidential entourage — have sparked outrage among the public and experts alike.

Investigations focus on former employees now working at Ukrzaliznytsia, with authorities attempting to connect them to criminal cases that originated before their transfer to the transportation sector.

Notably, the initiators aim to exert pressure on independent bodies by accusing them of abuse, while opposition voices suggest that actual goals involve eliminating obstacles to prosecuting corruption schemes involving political figures.

The Center for Anti-Corruption Action emphasizes that these proceedings bear signs of political orders designed to destabilize the system of independent investigation.

Court rulings confirm that raids were carried out within the framework of criminal proceedings, but links to high-level officials remain unclear, raising questions about the objectivity of the investigation.

Moreover, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine personally approved the search warrants, further complicating perceptions of legality and political motives.

Experts observe that such actions are part of a broader trend of leveraging law enforcement to pressure anti-corruption efforts, undermining their credibility and operational efficacy.

This practice poses a serious threat to democracy in Ukraine, risking the independence of key institutions in the fight against corruption.
