Russian envoy warns: Shooting down a Russian aircraft by NATO will trigger a major conflict

Chas Pravdy - 25 September 2025 17:59

Amid the tense atmosphere of international relations, the Russian ambassador to France, Aleksey Meshkov, issues a warning that could become a watershed moment in Europe’s security history.

According to him, any attempt by NATO forces to shoot down a Russian military aircraft will automatically escalate into a full-scale military confrontation between Russia and the Alliance.

This warning comes amidst rising tensions over potential Western provocations near European borders.

The ambassador pointed out that NATO aircraft are increasingly violating Russian airspace, violating international agreements and adding to the geopolitical strain.

He also baselessly accused Russia of involvement in incidents involving unidentified drones, which are increasingly detected over European cities, although official confirmation is lacking.

Political analysts are already highlighting the question of responsibility in air encounters — will NATO be allowed to openly shoot down Russian fighters? In the unfolding situation, the security of Europe and strategic stability worldwide are at stake.

Recent developments raise questions about both sides’ next moves, with world leaders and military experts calling for prudence and diplomatic solutions.

As this issue remains one of the most contentious in global politics, any decision made could have far-reaching consequences for the future of international peace and security.
