Fuel Crisis in Crimea: Causes of Gasoline Shortage and Its Impact on the Peninsula

Chas Pravdy - 25 September 2025 15:22

Recently, media reports have highlighted a sharp disappearance of gasoline at gas stations in the annexed Crimea, causing concern among locals and visitors alike.

All common brands, including the more expensive A100, suddenly vanished from fueling stations’ shelves.

Official authorities, including the region’s so-called head, Sergey Aksyonov, immediately attributed this crisis to a decline in production at Russian refineries, damaged during recent strikes on Russian oil facilities.

He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to stabilize the situation and urged residents and tourists to remain patient.According to Aksyonov, within the next two days, gas stations on the peninsula will receive sufficient supplies of AI-95 gasoline, and issues regarding the availability of AI-92 are expected to be resolved within two weeks.

Meanwhile, experts warn that such a crisis could lead to long queues and rising fuel prices, negatively affecting daily life for Crimean residents and visitors.Against the backdrop of fuel shortages in Russia, neighboring countries are experiencing increased tensions in oil product supplies.

Belarus, for instance, is currently restricting gasoline exports to Russia due to internal issues.

Earlier, foreign intelligence services reported that at least 20 regions in Russia, including temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, are already suffering from fuel shortages, and fuel prices in the country continue to rise. This situation could result in long-term regional stability and economic development challenges, further complicating life for residents and tourists on this historically significant peninsula.
