European Diplomats Warn Russia of Serious Consequences for Airspace Violations
Tensions continue to escalate in international relations as signals grow louder regarding potential conflicts involving Russia and European Union member states.
In recent weeks, diplomatic activities have intensified in response to repeated violations of Baltic and other European airspaces by Russian military aircraft.
Sources, including Bloomberg agency, report that European diplomats have held closed-door meetings warning Moscow: any further provocations could lead to a tough response, including shooting down Russian planes violating allied borders.
More details: Recently, the diplomatic missions of the UK, Germany, and France gathered in Moscow for a confidential meeting, expressing concern over incidents when three Russian fighter jets crossed Estonia’s borders on September 19.
Diplomats warned Moscow of serious consequences and stated that these provocations were deliberate.
In response, a Russian representative claimed that previous incidents are retaliation for Ukraine’s attacks on Crimea, which, according to him, would be impossible without NATO support.
The meeting on September 22 involved Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and was primarily focused on Iran’s nuclear program.
Meanwhile, some European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, show less readiness for drastic measures and do not rule out the possibility of shooting down Russian aircraft reckless enough to intrude into NATO airspace.
Overall, the situation remains tense, with diplomatic circles emphasizing the need for cautious responses to further provocations from Moscow.
