Zelensky Prepares for Meeting with Trump in New York: What We Know About the Upcoming Negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that his team is actively working on arranging a future meeting with former U.S.
President Donald Trump.
According to Zelensky himself, technical consultations and coordination are underway to ensure that the leaders of both countries can meet in person during the upcoming week in New York City.
This news gained widespread attention after the Ukrainian leader stated during a press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola that his team is making every effort to facilitate this meeting.Sources close to the American side also confirmed that former U.S.
President Donald Trump plans to meet with Zelensky in New York, although official requests have yet to be confirmed.
This would be their first face-to-face encounter in this format since their last conversation.
It’s worth noting that Zelensky and Trump last met in August of last year, during talks between Putin and Trump in Alaska.
At that time, Zelensky called on global powers to pay close attention to Ukraine’s security situation and take measures to prevent escalation.Since the past meetings of Trump and Putin, the regional situation has significantly deteriorated.
Increased Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, and incidents involving Russian drones violating Polish airspace add further tension to the current context of potential negotiations.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of adopting a clear and consistent stance on sanctions and security measures aimed at deterring aggressors and ending the war.
He also urged the U.S.
to continue exerting pressure on Russia and to maintain a firm policy against its actions. Therefore, this meeting could become a pivotal step in Ukraine-U.S.
cooperation and serve as a powerful signal of Western support for Ukraine during this critical period of conflict.
