Trump Congratulates Modi on Anniversary and Expresses Support for Ukraine Peace Efforts

President Donald Trump recently revealed about a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he congratulated him on his 75th birthday and expressed his support on critical international issues.
Trump described Modi as “an outstanding leader making significant efforts to improve global stability,” and especially thanked him for backing the efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
In response, Modi thanked Trump for his warm wishes, emphasizing that India aims to deepen its strategic partnership with the United States and supports peace initiatives concerning Ukraine.Meanwhile, the relations between Washington and New Delhi remain tense due to various political and economic disagreements.
Notably, the U.S.
has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports of Russian oil, which has cooled diplomatic interactions.
Despite Western sanctions, India continues increasing its energy imports from Moscow.Interestingly, Modi recently visited China upon an invitation from President Xi Jinping, participating in celebrations commemorating victory over Japan in World War II.
Furthermore, India recently deployed a military unit to the Russia-Belarus military exercises “Zapad-2025,” which surprisingly included several American military personnel.Despite Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, Modi remains sympathetic towards both Trump and Vladimir Putin.
He visited Moscow this summer, raising some eyebrows internationally.
It is also reported that Modi does not plan to attend the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in New York at the end of September.
Nevertheless, Trump stated he will always remain Modi’s friend but also expressed dissatisfaction with Modi’s current actions, hinting at possible internal disagreements in their relationship.
