Zelensky Expresses Deep Disappointment with Western Policies Amid Ukraine War

Chas Pravdy - 16 September 2025 06:20

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky openly criticizes Western leaders for their underestimation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and their insufficient measures to curb Kremlin’s aggression.

He emphasizes that sanctions against Russia should have been imposed much earlier and highlights Donald Trump’s unique role as the leader possessing real power to stop Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky points out that instead of isolating Russia, the West effectively allowed Moscow to return from isolation, ignoring escalating military actions in Ukraine and pursuing policies that only strengthened the Russian dictator’s position.

He voices dissatisfaction that Western countries are not increasing pressure on the Kremlin, instead only issuing declarative sanctions and statements.

The President stresses that recent international summits, including Trump’s meeting with Putin in Alaska, were errors that actually boosted Russia’s influence.

Zelensky asserts that Russia is doing everything possible to avoid new sanctions, and Western support appears insufficient to deter Putin’s aggression.

He calls for the US to act more decisively and implement stricter sanctions without waiting for the EU’s initiatives.

Zelensky reinforces that force is the only language Putin understands, and that the US should employ this language to achieve peace and stability.

He underscores the importance of active policies, including increased sanctions pressure on the Kremlin, to halt the ongoing war and prevent further destruction.

He also warns against hasty peace agreements which might solidify occupation, lead to Ukraine’s defeat, or threaten global stability.

Experts note that rushing into peace deals driven by external interests could be detrimental, and Ukraine must act cautiously, seeking a fair and sustainable peace.

In this context, any peace negotiated without proper preparation and consideration of the battlefield realities risks being temporary and harmful to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
