Occupation Authorities in Donetsk Promote ‘Patriotic Lessons’ with Military Personnel to Indoctrinate Students, Using Propaganda Tactics
On the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, attempts by pro-Russian occupation administrations to impose an ideology fostering loyalty to Russia and its military forces have intensified once again.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, the region’s occupation chief, Denis Pushilin, announced plans to hold so-called «patriotic lessons» in local schools, organized by the winners of the «Donbas.
Heroes and Defenders» competition.
During these classes, Russian military personnel will share combat experiences and heroism stories with students, aiming to cultivate feelings of pride in Russia and its military role in the region.
Experts from the Center note that this initiative is part of a broader Kremlin strategy to create a «new elite» trained for roles in local governance and civil structures, prepared to serve Russia’s geopolitical interests.
Simultaneously, the authorities promote these individuals as «heroes» in public propaganda, presenting them as role models for children and youth, thereby embedding pro-Russian narratives into the local socio-political fabric.
Analysts warn that such measures are designed to transform the younger generation into tools of propaganda and psychological influence, fostering hatred towards Ukraine and Western allies.
This psychological conditioning aims to weaken Ukrainian national identity and prepare future generations for possible regional conflicts aligned with Kremlin interests.
The Center previously reported that pro-Russian outlets propagate messages suggesting Ukrainians fear occupation, framing the presence of international forces as a «real invasion» of Ukraine.
These disinformation campaigns seek to undermine Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts and secure trust among Ukrainian citizens in Western security guarantees by portraying alleged threats and instability.
Overall, these propaganda efforts serve to deepen internal divisions, destabilize Ukrainian society, and legitimize Moscow’s geopolitical ambitions by manipulating perceptions within and outside Ukraine.
