Portugal and Germany: Firm Support for Ukraine During Joint Berlin Events
                                                Following a prominent political speech at a major festival in Berlin, the presidents of Portugal and Germany reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking during the ceremonial opening of the Bürgerfest festival in Berlin, emphasized that their countries remain steadfast allies of the Ukrainian people, upholding values of democracy, freedom, and human rights.The Portuguese leader highlighted that Portugal will never stand aside in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom and security, quoting Nobel Peace laureate Willy Brandt: “Peace is not everything, but without peace, everything is nothing.” Conversely, the German president stressed the importance of a united European strategy against Russian aggression, emphasizing that Europe must act collectively and in solidarity to face external threats.The meeting between the two leaders took place as Rebelo de Sousa’s term approaches its end in 2026.
During his visit, the Portuguese president confirmed the alliance and partnership between their countries within the European Union, NATO, and the United Nations.
Besides political statements, both leaders underscored the importance of cooperation in tourism and economic spheres.
This further demonstrates the efforts of both nations to strengthen friendly relations and show their readiness to support Ukraine in its fight for independence and security.
