Poland closes its borders with Belarus amidst military drills of Russia and Belarus

Chas Pravdy - 12 September 2025 05:21

Starting from Thursday morning, Poland has temporarily closed all border crossings with Belarus, effectively sealing the border between the two nations.

This decision was made in response to large-scale military exercises conducted by Russia and Belarus, known as ‘Zapad-2025,’ which began on September 12.

Official sources, including Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, confirmed that this measure aims to ensure national security and prevent potential provocations.

During an emergency press conference in Terespol, Polish Minister of Internal Affairs Marcin Kervinsky emphasized that the exercises pose a direct threat to Poland and Europe, being targeted specifically against Polish interests and the European Union. The restrictions apply to all types of transport: personal vehicles and freight.

Car drivers are prohibited from crossing the border through the Terespol-Brest checkpoint, while truck drivers cannot use the Kukuriki and Kozlovichi crossings.

Additionally, three railway border crossings for freight transport — Kuznitsa Bialostocka-Grodno, Semianivka-Svisloch, and Terezpol-Brest — are also closed.

These measures are in effect until further notice and could significantly impact regional logistics and economic activity, escalating tensions between countries and reinforcing Poland’s defensive posture amid the ongoing military threats.
