Ukraine’s Government Implements Unified Standards for Military Medical Examinations: Overhauling Medical Checks for Service Members and Security Forces

Chas Pravdy - 11 September 2025 10:30

The Ukrainian government has initiated a comprehensive reform in the procedures for medical examinations of military personnel and other security agencies.

Effective immediately, a standardized and nationwide approach to conducting military-medical assessments has been introduced, aiming to ensure more transparent and equitable health evaluations for all servicemen and law enforcement officers.

This decision was adopted during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, September 11, by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.According to the new regulations, the rules for military-medical expertise will now extend beyond the Armed Forces of Ukraine to include the Security Service of Ukraine, the External Intelligence Service, the State Border Guard Service, the National Guard, and the State Security Administration.

All these agencies will utilize a unified schedule and criteria for assessing health suitability, fostering consistency across different services.Furthermore, military medical examinations will be carried out at their own medical facilities whenever available.

In cases where such facilities are absent, personnel will be able to undergo assessments in civilian medical institutions under established agreements. In addition, the government announced changes to pay conditions for teachers, including annual bonuses for all educators.

The procedure for passing medical and military-medical evaluations has been simplified significantly, especially for military personnel and individuals receiving long-term treatment abroad (for 12 months or more), who previously faced obstacles in passing assessments in Ukraine. These reforms aim to eliminate situations where service members are not directed for medical checks, which can delay mobilization or the issuance of deferments.

Overall, the new rules promote transparency, fairness, and efficiency, thereby strengthening the integrity of the military healthcare system and ensuring the safety and well-being of personnel.
