NABU Denies Political or Law Enforcement Conflicts: Leadership Comments and Ongoing Investigations
Amid recent political and law enforcement developments involving Ukrainian agencies, the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Semen Kryvonos, issued a public statement clarifying the current situation.
He categorically denied any existence of conflicts or tension between NABU and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), emphasizing that the agencies maintain working and constructive relations.
Claims suggesting otherwise are unfounded and represent biased insinuations without basis in facts.According to official comments, the reason for a recent internal investigation was information disseminated by the SBU regarding alleged influence exerted by detained deputy Fedor Khrystenko of the banned OPZz party on a law enforcement authority.
Kryvonos stated that he had not heard Khrystenko’s name within NABU, but following the public disclosure, he initiated an internal probe, which is still ongoing.
He also underscored that if objective evidence is found, NABU will take appropriate measures and request permission from the SBU to disclose details, ensuring transparency and public awareness.Regarding interaction with other law enforcement bodies, the bureau’s head affirmed that there is no ‘war’ or serious confrontation with the SBU but rather professional and constructive cooperation, especially with SBU head Vasyl Maliuk.
Kryvonos views the current situation as part of the political and law enforcement discourse often manipulated to influence anti-corruption efforts and external pressures.Additionally, NABU recently received a request from the same SBU concerning an employee, Ruslan Magamedrasulov, suspected of corruption-related violations involving false declarations.
