NABU Responds to New Suspicion Concerning Its Detective: An Internal Investigation Has Been Initiated
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has issued a statement reacting to recent developments involving allegations against one of its personnel.
The agency announced that it has launched an official inquiry into accusations of false asset declarations exceeding 4 million hryvnias.
While internal checks conducted during the hiring process in 2024 did not reveal any evidence of deception, the controversy has prompted NABU leadership to act swiftly and implement appropriate measures.According to official reports, during the second half of 2024, NABU’s Internal Control Department carried out a thorough review of the personal, professional, and moral qualities of the involved detective, including assessments of his family members.
This investigation did not uncover any violations or falsehoods in the requested documentation.
However, information from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) suggests possible discrepancies or false declarations made by a deputy head of one of the bureau’s units, complicating the situation.NABU announced that in response to these developments, its Internal Control Department has begun an official inquiry aimed at clarifying all circumstances.
If the claims confirmed by the SBU are validated, the bureau plans to apply internal administrative measures in accordance with established procedures.
Additionally, on July 21, 2025, law enforcement agencies including SBU and the State Bureau of Investigation conducted searches and seized electronic devices from NABU employees.
The Internal Control Department has formally requested in official letters that these agencies promptly inform them of any misconduct and involve them in the ongoing investigation.Currently, there has been no official notification from the investigative bodies regarding misconduct related to the detective, nor has he been included in the investigative teams.
Nevertheless, according to anti-corruption authorities, law enforcement will seek to impose a pre-trial detention or bail measures and suspend the detective from official duties.
The case will be considered by the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv city.
This situation highlights the importance and complexity of internal oversight within agencies responsible for combating corruption at the highest levels.
