Donald Trump sharply criticizes Australian author’s children’s book over gender themes
Former U.S.
President Donald Trump publicly voiced his disagreement with an Australian author’s children’s book authored by Scott Stewart, which challenges traditional gender roles and promotes ideas that clash with religious and conservative values.
The book titled “My Shadow Is Pink” narrates the story of a boy who loves princesses and fairies, questioning societal notions of gender and roles.
Trump, speaking at an event organized by the Commission on Religious Freedom, accused the book of propagating “radical gender ideology,” which he considers inappropriate and harmful to children’s development.
During the event, he invited a 12-year-old boy who revealed that he was forced to read the book aloud to kindergarten children, after which he was subjected to bullying by classmates.
The school ignored the issue, leading to widespread public concern and outrage among parents. In his speech, Trump emphasized that children should have the right to live and believe according to their religious convictions and expressed his belief that books like “My Shadow Is Pink” interfere with this right.
Released in 2020, the book gained popularity across several countries; in 2022, it was adapted into a short film, and the author announced plans for a TV series.
The book became a focal point of heated debates regarding educational ideologies and cultural identities.
Prominent figures in literature and culture, such as British agent Sarah McKenzie, supported the author’s work, citing it as “innovative and essential for fostering self-acceptance and acceptance of others.”The author responded to criticism by stating that political forces are attempting to manipulate children’s literature for their own agendas, using it as a pawn in adult political games.
According to him, Trump and his supporters exploit such stories to spread ideological messages, undermining the true essence of the book — themes of love, equality, and diversity.
The ongoing struggle over educational freedom and children’s rights remains at the forefront of societal discussions, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding open-minded and inclusive learning environments.
