Escalating Russian Attacks Highlight Ukraine’s Urgent Need for Security Guarantees – Canadian Prime Minister

Chas Pravdy - 08 September 2025 07:27

A recent large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukrainian territory by Russia underscores the critical importance of bolstering international support and providing concrete security assurances to Ukraine.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his concern over the latest aggression, emphasizing that Russia’s heightened activity demonstrates the urgent need for swift and decisive international action to secure Ukraine’s future safety.

According to Carney, the attacks last night resulting in civilian casualties and damaging key infrastructure serve as an unprecedented act of aggression and a stark reminder of the necessity to establish robust security guarantees for the country.

He highlighted the global community’s role in uniting efforts to support Ukraine and ensure sustainable peace.

The minister recalled his visit to Ukraine in August, reaffirming Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty.

Carney assured that Canada is committed to standing by Kyiv’s side amid ongoing conflict: “We remain steadfast in our support for Ukraine and are prepared to provide the necessary military assistance to defend and stabilize the nation.” This demonstrates Canada’s determined stance to aid Ukraine in defending its independence and security, especially as Putin’s ongoing aggression underscores the importance of creating strong and lasting security guarantees.

On the night of September 7, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukrainian territories, utilizing kamikaze drones and ground-launched missiles.

Ukrainian air defenses successfully neutralized most targets, destroying 751 out of 823 enemy attack means.

However, there was damage from 9 missile strikes and 54 attack drones across multiple locations, reinforcing the urgent need for enhanced defense capabilities and international support.
