Zelensky Defines Victory for Ukraine as Survival and Sovereignty

Chas Pravdy - 07 September 2025 22:20

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a recent interview with ABC News, articulated a definition of what constitutes a true victory for his country amid ongoing conflict.

According to him, the ultimate achievement for Ukraine is simply surviving as an independent nation.

Zelensky emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s objective remains the complete occupation of Ukraine, which would signify a victory for Moscow.

However, as long as that goal remains unrealized, Ukraine already considers itself victorious by preserving its national identity, sovereignty, and independence.

Furthermore, Zelensky expressed his opinion that the recent meeting between U.S.

President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska provided Moscow with the gains it sought — notably, an opportunity for closer engagement with the American president.

The Ukrainian leader lamented that Ukraine was absent during that meeting, believing that Putin received what he wanted — a direct interaction with the U.S.

leader.

The interview was recorded on Friday and aired on Sunday, adding significant insight into Ukraine’s strategic stance and the international diplomatic landscape.
