Putin Believes He Can Act with Impunity: New Evidence of Growing Aggression and Disregard for Peace
In today’s geopolitical landscape, alarming assessments have emerged regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sense of unchecked power, as he seems to interpret international rules and diplomatic efforts as mere signals to escalate military actions.
On August 7, the UK government officially released a statement from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemning the recent night-time shelling of Ukraine — the most intense since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to British officials, the country has allocated over one billion pounds from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s resistance and bolster defensive measures. In his statement, Sunak emphasized that all measures, including military aid, are aimed at halting escalation which increasingly harms civilian populations.
He highlighted that previous diplomatic concessions and leniency towards Putin have failed to produce positive results and instead have encouraged further aggression.
“I am shocked by the brutal nighttime attack that damaged civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other cities.
It’s a clear signal that Putin believes he can act with impunity.
He is not serious about peace,” the Prime Minister pointed out. Finally, Sunak underlined the importance of steadfast support for Ukraine and its sovereignty.
He noted that Britain has long been considering lessons from Ukraine’s conflict to prevent further escalation and promote a fair and sustainable peace process.
The government also expressed its backing of international efforts and urged the global community to unite against what is known as the ‘coalition of the willing,’ which promises and delivers arms supplies, including long-range missile systems, to strengthen Ukraine’s resistance.
In this complex struggle, Western leaders stress that trusting Putin is not an option, as his tactics are based on stalling negotiations and increasing brutality, only deepening the crisis and causing suffering for all Ukrainian civilians.
