Macron and Meloni Condemn Russia’s Massive Attack on Ukraine: Calls for Unity and Support for Victims
On the night of Sunday, September 7, global leaders responded decisively to Ukraine’s courageous resistance against yet another large-scale attack conducted by Russian occupiers.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni immediately reacted to the new wave of Russian strikes against Ukrainian cities.
Meloni emphasized that Moscow is increasingly focusing on intensifying brutality and destruction in Ukraine, indicating a refusal to engage in peace negotiations at this stage.
At the same time, she reaffirmed Italy’s firm support for Ukraine and its intention, together with Western partners, to continue contributing efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace that can prevent further escalation.Poland, the Czech Republic, and Japan also reacted strongly to the night-time shelling, warning that halting aid to Ukraine at this moment would amount to siding with the aggressor and could lead to deeper escalation of the conflict.
Representatives of these countries stressed that such a stance would only encourage Russia’s terror and worsen the situation. The Italian government leader confirmed ongoing support for Ukraine, stating that Italy and its allies would do everything possible to prevail over the aggressor and establish a long-lasting peace.
French President Macron highlighted that Russia is delving deeper into the logic of war and terror, which causes global concern.
“My thoughts are with the victims, their families, Ukraine, and the Ukrainian people.
Together with Ukraine and our partners, we advocate for a swift and fair resolution through peaceful means,” he declared.Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Butrius noted that these new strikes mark the beginning of a more dangerous phase in Russia’s terrorist campaign.
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova emphasized that Russia is continuing its brazen terror attacks, demonstrating no signs of restraint.
According to Ukrainian military sources, Russian forces executed a combined strike using 805 kamikaze drones and 13 missiles, including “Iskander-M” and “Iskander-K” types. In Kyiv, the recent shelling caused damage and destruction in the Sviatoshynskyi district, with reports of two fatalities and over twenty injuries, including an 18-year-old girl wounded in Brovary.
Additionally, Russian forces deliberately targeted a bridge over the Dnipro in Kremenchuk, raising alarm and prompting protective measures in the region. This night served as yet another reminder to the international community of the urgent need for increased support for Ukraine and unity in the fight against Russian aggression, which persists despite widespread condemnation and sanctions.
This is evident not only in diplomatic statements but also in the tangible assistance provided to help restore peace and stability in the region.
