Ukraine Targets Spy Networks as Opposition MP from OPZZh Detained on Charges of High Treason

Chas Pravdy - 06 September 2025 16:28

On September 6th, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies carried out a high-profile operation resulting in the detention of a Member of Parliament of the 9th convocation representing the banned political party ‘Opposition Platform — For Life’ (OPZZh).

This politician is considered a staunch supporter of Russian interests and is under suspicion of high treason.

According to statements from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Office of the General Prosecutor, the detained individual had been on the wanted list and was involved in collaborating with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

Evidence indicates that he was recruited long before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and was actively executing tasks aimed at destabilizing Ukrainian society and authorities.

Particular focus has been placed on the fact that the suspect established an effective influence mechanism over a leadership figure within one of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies, which poses a serious threat to national security.

After his arrest, he was brought before a court, which already imposed a pre-trial detention measure, allowing further investigation into his criminal activities.

While the SBU has not officially named the suspect, sources suggest it is likely Fedir Khostenko, who was previously subject to extradition proceedings from Dubai, where he was also wanted.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to combat internal traitors and dismantle hostile espionage networks operating within the country.
