Ukrainian Drones Conduct Attack on Ryazan Oil Refinery: Impact and Official Response

Chas Pravdy - 05 September 2025 08:32

Last evening marked another escalation in the tense conflict along the borders of Russia and Ukraine, when Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems successfully targeted a critical facility in Ryazan region — the Ryazan Oil Refinery.

This extraordinary event was confirmed by representatives of the Counter-Disinformation Center at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, as well as local sources reporting fires at the plant.

According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Counter-Disinformation Center, this attack is a well-planned operation by Ukrainian forces aimed at increasing informational pressure and demonstrating the capabilities of unmanned systems.

Local residents and witnesses describe a large fire resulting from the strike, consuming part of the refinery, while authorities state that the situation remains under control.

The regional governor, Pavel Malkov, reported that at least eight drones were shot down attempting to penetrate the region’s airspace.

He emphasized that no casualties or significant damage to residential areas or infrastructure has been recorded so far, and wreckage from the intercepted drones has been collected for analysis and cleanup.

This is not the first incident of its kind; on August 2, similar drone attacks targeted the same region, affecting critical infrastructure and military sites in Penzenskaya and Samar regions.

Eyewitness footage shows a huge column of fire rising from the targeted oil facility owned by Rosneft.

These repeated assaults highlight the increasing military and informational confrontation between Kyiv and Moscow, as authorities and experts work to manage the aftermath and solidify security in the region.
