Putin’s Threats Lose Their Effectiveness: The World No Longer Reacts to Russian Blackmail
Recent statements from Ukrainian diplomats and international experts indicate a significant decline in the impact of Russia’s threats and blackmail tactics previously employed by Vladimir Putin to influence the global community and achieve strategic goals in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
According to Georgian Tikhiy, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia’s persistent warnings and intimidation no longer resonate with governments and societies of partner countries, as the world has recognized the true nature of Putin’s words and become immune to his calls for fear and panic.Tikhiy emphasized that Moscow constantly repeats its threats — “we will strike, respond harshly,” — but these words have long lost their weight and psychological influence.
World leaders have learned to ignore such promises and maintain distance, understanding that they lack any real substance.
This is reinforced by the fact that Russia, personally Vladimir Putin, continually fosters an atmosphere of fear and blackmail, but their words do not translate into actionable or effective measures that could alter the situation.Ukraine actively informs its international partners that Kremlin has been promising “terrible consequences” for any support provided to Kyiv—especially pertaining to new types of weapons since 2022.
However, these threats have remained empty, and no concrete actions from Russia have materialized.
This demonstrates that these psychological scare tactics have lost their force and credibility on the global security stage.Tikhiy also noted that the continuation of Moscow’s blackmail and threats confirms two crucial points: first, Ukraine’s allies have a fully tangible capacity to be present in Ukraine and support its sovereignty; second, their participation and backing are genuinely capable of guaranteeing national security and deterring aggressors.
This reflects an increasing trust from the global community in Ukraine’s calls for defense and support.Regarding Putin’s recent statements and Moscow’s guarantees of security, Tikhiy dismissed them as absurd.
He also pointed out that Putin’s threats to target NATO forces that may appear in Ukraine violate international agreements and indicate a potential escalation of the conflict.
Therefore, Ukrainian diplomacy continues to call for united international actions aimed at deterring aggression and stabilizing the situation on the global stage.
