Potential Extradition of OPPZJ Deputy Khrestenko from Dubai to Ukraine: Details and Prospects
Government and law enforcement sources confirm that Ukrainian parliamentarian Fedor Khrestenko, representing the now banned political party ‘Opposition Platform – For Life,’ may soon be extradited from Dubai back to Ukraine.
According to information obtained from three independent sources within security forces and political circles, active efforts are underway to facilitate his return from the Emirate capital.Khrestenko, who was placed on the international wanted list last year, is accused of treason, with the case linked to his well-known pro-Russian stance and alleged cooperation with the Russian Federation.
Since fleeing Ukraine following the onset of the conflict in 2014, he has been residing in the UAE, repeatedly affirming his loyalty to Russia, including visiting Russia during intense military operations.Sources report that on August 13, the Security Service of Ukraine announced his wanted status.
The extradition process is complicated by his current legal status and diplomatic hurdles, but diplomatic efforts are ongoing.
Official data reveal that during pre-trial investigations, authorities uncovered ties between Khrestenko and Russian special services, notably FSB, highlighting his role in attempts to bolster Russian influence within key Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies.Additionally, in July this year, the SBU and prosecutors announced they are working to obtain testimonies from the pro-Russian politician regarding potential contacts with Russian detectives and agencies.
Previous journalistic investigations revealed that Khrestenko left Ukraine on February 14, 2022, and has been living in a private apartment in Dubai measuring over 170 square meters.
Efforts to extradite him are ongoing, and Ukrainian law enforcement expects success shortly, which could be a significant step in combating pro-Russian elements in Ukraine.
