In response to alarming developments surrounding Russia’s aggression and its widespread war against Ukraine, European leaders and their American allies are actively working to tighten the economic and political pressure on Moscow.

A delegation of the European Union is preparing to travel to Washington to coordinate the implementation of new sanctions aimed at significantly complicating Russia’s military endeavors and stimulating a swift resolution of the conflict.

European Council President Antonio Costa emphasized that this new set of sanctions is a crucial tool to compel Russia to halt its aggression and violent operations in Ukraine.

According to Costa, the EU is already working on this initiative, collaborating closely with the United States to design an effective comprehensive sanctions framework that includes both direct and secondary measures, intended to weaken Russia’s economic and military capabilities.During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Uzhhorod, Costa stressed that member states are acting in unison to increase the impact of sanctions.

European diplomats have made it clear that these measures should be not only severe but also widespread, designed to undermine Russia’s economic foundation and military potential.

Zelensky, for his part, underscored Ukraine’s commitment to continue reforms, aid in reconstruction efforts, and advance towards European Union membership.

He also highlighted concerns regarding certain countries, particularly Hungary, which seeks to distort responsibility for the war and shift blame onto Ukraine, raising questions about Budapest’s true intentions.

The Ukrainian president called for unity and joint efforts in securing a peaceful and stable Europe.Costa reaffirmed that the EU intends to maintain robust support for Ukraine in its fight against aggression, while also fostering its economic development and integration into Europe.

EU membership for Ukraine offers prospects for improved living standards, stability, and security.

However, EU leaders recognize that the path to peace and full accession is long and challenging, but they remain committed to this goal.Earlier reports indicated that US diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have stalled, with pessimism growing about the prospects for a quick resolution.
