President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a recent joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, made a significant statement regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.

According to him, the country has already established a reliable basis for ensuring security through bilateral agreements, particularly with Denmark, laying the groundwork for intensified international cooperation.

Zelensky highlighted that the vision for Ukraine’s future security should be akin to NATO’s Article 5, implying collective security guarantees for the nation.

He stressed that now it is crucial to turn these agreements into concrete actions — defining how each country will contribute to arming Ukraine, enhancing its defense capabilities, and coordinating efforts across various domains including land, air, sea, and cyberspace.Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are becoming the backbone of this security system, which must be robust enough to deter Russia.

Simultaneously, significant attention is given to providing military equipment and funding, with key support from partners like the United States, which has signaled readiness to establish mechanisms for assurances.

Additionally, the role of the European Union is under discussion: amid Denmark’s EU presidency, Ukraine is actively working on opening negotiations related to security clusters.

Zelensky mentioned that about 30 security documents are in place, although they vary in scope and content.A primary focus of this strategy is on strengthening Ukraine’s own military and missile capabilities rather than relying solely on Western promises.

Zelensky pointed out that legally binding guarantees are essential to minimize future risks.

He concluded by noting that a meeting of the “coalition of willing” will take place in Paris, with Portugal also invited, where discussions about the level and effectiveness of security guarantees will continue.

Overall, Zelensky’s actions reflect an active diplomatic push aimed at securing a resilient shield around Ukraine, preventing aggression, and stabilizing the region.
