During their highly anticipated visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a major summit in Beijing, marking one of the most significant meetings in recent diplomatic history between the two nations.

The leaders emphasized the depth of their cooperation and mutual understanding, describing it as an ‘unprecedented’ level of partnership in contemporary international relations.

A key highlight was Putin’s statement that Russia and China are the ‘main victors’ of World War II, reaffirming their shared historical responsibility and solidarity.

This proclamation came amid a trilateral meeting that included Mongolia, adding further diplomatic weight to the agenda.

Following initial discussions in a tripartite format, the leaders proceeded to bilateral negotiations, where they stressed their readiness to bolster collaborations across economic, security, and global governance sectors.

Xi Jinping responded that China and Russia have a history of trust and friendship, expressed willingness to work together to shape a more just and balanced world order.

Additionally, new economic projects were agreed upon, including the signing of a legally binding agreement between Gazprom and China’s CNPC on the construction of the “Siberia Force-2” pipeline, expected to annually ship substantial volumes of gas from Russia to China via Mongolia.

Meanwhile, in the context of regional politics and international relations, Putin reiterated false claims about provocations by the West as the pretext for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba responded, asserting that Putin is gradually losing his ability to deceive.

Putin’s visit to China is part of a strategic diplomatic effort to unite with one of its main global allies, counter Western influence, and strengthen economic and political influence on the international stage.
