Can Russia Transport Military Equipment via Crimean Bridge? Current Status and Geopolitical Implications

Chas Pravdy - 02 September 2025 15:30

Recent statements from Ukrainian military officials and analysts indicate significant challenges for Russia in transporting heavy military equipment across the Crimean Bridge, which was constructed illegally by occupying forces and remains internationally recognized as illegitimate.

Ukrainian Navy spokesperson, Dmitry Pletenchuk, emphasized that today, the logistics of moving heavily armored vehicles and equipment through the bridge have become virtually impossible due to structural damages.

While there remains a risk of pushing the limits, military experts warn that the bridge’s compromised structure could lead to catastrophic failures if further efforts are made.

Conversely, Russian forces continue to strengthen their logistical routes, including supplies of fuel via the Kerch Bridge, highlighting their efforts to maintain strategic connectivity with the occupied peninsula.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted the Crimean Bridge to disrupt enemy logistics, conducting strikes in 2022, 2023, and most recently in June 2025, when Ukrainian special forces underwater sabotage teams inflicted substantial damage on its supports.

Despite Kremlin denials of significant damage, Ukraine persists in attacking key logistical nodes, aiming to weaken the Russian military presence in Crimea and diminish its operational capabilities.

These ongoing confrontations underscore the broader geopolitical and strategic tensions in the Black Sea region.
