During an urgent NATO-Ukraine Council meeting held via online format, Ukrainian officials appealed to allies for increased support in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities amidst intensified Russian missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians.

The session, convened at Kyiv’s request in light of recent large-scale missile attacks, saw participation from deputy defense minister Serhiy Boiov and deputy interior minister Oleksiy Sergiev, who provided detailed updates on Ukraine’s security situation, Russia’s evolving tactics, and future threats.

Ukraine’s representatives emphasized the urgent need for NATO member states to supply advanced air defense systems, particularly Patriot missile systems, and long-range rockets to effectively counter Russian aggression.

They also called for increased investment in Ukraine’s defense industry, with a special focus on the production of military drones capable of neutralizing enemy targets and protecting critical infrastructure.

Attendees condemned Russia’s relentless attacks on cities and civilian structures, underscoring Moscow’s disregard for peace and international norms.

NATO allies reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine by providing necessary arms and military aid, and expressed concern over the upcoming winter season, stressing the importance of safeguarding energy infrastructure.

The representatives highlighted that Russia’s ongoing missile barrages, including recent assaults on Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities, aim to destabilize the country and prolong the conflict.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga pointed out that the summit’s urgency reflects Kyiv’s call for rapid and comprehensive assistance, as the war enters a critical phase with harsh winter conditions approaching.

The collective stance underscores the alliance’s resolve to maintain pressure on Russia and provide unwavering support to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security during these challenging times.
