Chas Pravdy - 01 September 2025 23:45

In Lviv and Kyiv, solemn events were held to honor the memory of former Verkhovna Rada Chairman and Member of Parliament from ‘European Solidarity,’ Andriy Parubiy, who tragically lost his life on August 30.

In Lviv, the official farewell ceremony took place on September 1 at St.

Yuri’s Cathedral, where hundreds of city residents gathered to pay their respects to this prominent political figure who contributed significantly to Ukraine’s development.

The funeral is scheduled for September 2 at Lychakiv Cemetery, where his relatives and supporters already await.

The prayer service in the cathedral was marked by grief and gratitude for his role in shaping Ukraine’s modern history.

Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozitskyi, emphasized that Parubiy was more than just a military leader; he became a symbol of the fight for Ukraine’s independence and democratic values.

He assured that those responsible for his death would face justice.

On the same day in Kyiv, a separate memorial took place on Independence Square, attended by over a thousand citizens who brought flowers and candles, expressing their remembrance and appreciation for his contributions.

One of the attendees, unable to come to Lviv, shared that she came to honor his memory because his loss was premature — he died before Ukraine’s victory.

The public’s sentiments of sorrow and gratitude highlight the importance of this event in Ukraine’s contemporary history.

Investigations are underway regarding the circumstances of the assault — authorities are examining whether accomplices or instigators were involved.

Among those paying tribute were political colleagues, including Petro Poroshenko, who highlighted Parubiy’s role during the Maidan and compared him to Stepan Bandera, calling him a symbol of Ukraine’s fight for independence.

The incident occurred in Lviv on Efremova Street, where Parubiy was shot by an unidentified attacker.

That evening, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrest of a suspect, a 52-year-old Lviv resident detained in Khmelnytskyi region, indicating swift law enforcement response to this tragic event.
