Russia Declares Intent to Continue Aggression Against Ukraine: Official Military Statements and Political Implications

Chas Pravdy - 30 August 2025 19:24

The Russian Federation has officially confirmed its intention to keep conducting military operations against Ukraine despite international calls for de-escalation.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, in his recent statements, emphasized that the aggressor country will persist in executing offensive actions as part of what Moscow labels a ‘special military operation.’ He pointed out that military efforts are focused on delivering targeted missile and drone strikes against strategically vital Ukrainian facilities.

According to Gerasimov, priority is given to destroying enterprises that produce missile systems and long-range UAVs, which have become crucial components of Russia’s military infrastructure in what it refers to as its ‘civil war’ against Ukraine.

He also asserted that ‘strategic initiative completely belongs to Russian troops,’ implying that Moscow does not plan to reduce its offensive tempo or alter its tactics.

These declarations are especially significant in the context of recent diplomatic engagements, including a summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where prospects for ending the conflict diplomatically were discussed.

Nevertheless, Moscow insists on continuing military operations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated that it is vital to prevent further escalation and reminded that Western leaders had previously expressed willingness to wait a few weeks for a potential bilateral meeting between Putin and himself.

However, that timeframe is soon expiring, emphasizing the urgency of diplomatic and military measures to preserve peace in Ukraine.
