South Korean President Urges Active Efforts Toward Peace on the Korean Peninsula
In the heart of Washington, during a historic meeting at the White House, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung addressed his American counterpart, Donald Trump, with a significant plea – to do everything possible to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Amid ongoing tensions and the increasing military capabilities of both sides, leaders of the two countries discussed prospects for reducing tensions and pursuing diplomatic solutions, including the potential meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Lee praised Trump for his interest in global security and for achieving certain results in this area, expressing hope that he can help find peace and stability in the region.
In a humorous tone, he added that in Pyongyang, a Trump Tower could be built to motivate visits for golf.
It is worth noting that during previous terms, tensions in the region remained relatively stable, but during Trump’s absence from office, North Korea significantly strengthened its missile and nuclear arsenal, complicating the security situation.
Lee’s visit to Washington was his first personal visit since his election, and his meeting with Trump marked a new diplomatic chapter.
The leaders exchanged greetings and handshakes, demonstrating a desire for dialogue and cooperation.
According to local media, the meeting also covered discussions on U.S.
military presence in the region, with Lee stating that Washington’s demands for Seoul’s increased flexibility in deploying U.S.
troops are difficult for Seoul to accept.
Overall, military and trade relations are currently under strain due to Trump’s ‘America First’ policy, which is causing tension and presenting challenges for bilateral cooperation.
