Ukraine continues to strengthen its foreign policy and infrastructure positions in the region, particularly in its relations with Romania.

Kyiv plans to open a new consulate in the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmației soon, marking an important step in consolidating bilateral diplomatic ties and improving the protection of Ukrainian and Romanian minority rights in the region.

This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha during a joint briefing with his Romanian counterpart, Oana-Silvia Cîțu, who was visiting Kyiv.Additionally, a test railway route between Kyiv and Bucharest via Chisinau has been planned to facilitate easier transportation.

This will promote economic and cultural exchanges and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

An important part of the partnership is the upcoming opening of a border crossing point at Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmației, which will create new logistics opportunities.

The completion of the Tisa River bridge is expected to be a key element in this infrastructure development. Moreover, the two countries expressed interest in jointly producing drones for the European market, opening a new avenue for collaboration.

Sybiha emphasized that the protection of national minority rights remains a priority for both states and committed to countering hybrid influence attempts.

Discussions also included investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, development of border infrastructure, and the creation of new logistics corridors, including a transport route connecting Greece with Ukrainian Odesa via Bulgaria and Romania.Through these initiatives, Ukraine and Romania aim to enhance their economic, diplomatic, and security ties, opening new prospects for regional cooperation and stability.
