Romanian Foreign Minister’s Visit to Kyiv: A Symbol of Support for Ukraine During Difficult Times
Romanian Foreign Minister, Oana-Silvia Cîțu, embarked on a historic visit to Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, to reaffirm her country’s unwavering support amidst challenging circumstances.
The visit took place against the backdrop of destruction inflicted upon the children’s hospital ‘Ohmatdit,’ which suffered extensive damage in July last year due to Russian missile strikes.
This marks the first official visit by a senior Romanian diplomat to Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
During her trip, Cîțu emphasized the importance of solidarity, stating: ‘This visit sends a strong signal of our steadfast support for Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and independence.
I plan to hold talks with Ukrainian officials on key issues of mutual interest and to visit Chernivtsi to demonstrate our regional support.’ While in Kyiv, she also toured the School of Superheroes, established at the National Cancer Institute, which aims to nurture future defenders and bolster Ukrainian resilience.
Cîțu remarked: ‘What struck me most is that Ukrainians are fighting not only for their land but also for their children, their future, and their freedom.
Romania remains an unwavering partner and supporter of Ukraine’s legitimate struggle for justice.’ Amid recent political developments in Romania, where parliament approved a new government led by pro-European Prime Minister Iliuță Bolojan, the country is actively reinforcing its support for Ukraine and countering external influence.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis recently expressed concerns about possible Russian interference in the country’s internal affairs and election processes.
These developments highlight Romania’s commitment to strengthening national security and resisting external aggressions in the region.
Moving forward, Romania continues to emphasize unwavering support for Ukraine and combating disruptive foreign influences, maintaining its European orientation and striving for regional stability and peace.
