Court of Appeal Determines Pretrial Measures for Former Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshov

Chas Pravdy - 07 August 2025 15:26

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine, known as VAKS, recently completed its review of the pretrial detention measure for Oleksiy Chernyshov, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity.

The appellate panel upheld the initial ruling, which mandates a bail of over 120 million hryvnias and several procedural obligations for the suspect.

This decision came in response to appeals from both prosecution and defense, and it took effect immediately upon announcement, without the possibility of further appeal.

According to investigative data, Chernyshov is suspected of abuse of authority, demanding and receiving illicit benefits in significant amounts, as per Articles 15, 28, 364, and 368 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.

Despite the substantial bail, it was paid entirely in full.

Under the court’s ruling, the ex-deputy is required to regularly appear before investigators and the court, inform authorities of any changes in residence or employment, and refrain from communication with other suspects and witnesses.

Notably, VAKS did not support the request to suspend Chernyshov from his position for two months.

The case exposes extensive corruption schemes involving the former deputy prime minister, with high-level detective involvement from NABU, including Oleksandr Skomarov, linking the case to broader political and economic interests.
