Ukraine and USA Prepare Joint Mineral Extraction and Defense Projects: New Plans for the Next 18 Months

Chas Pravdy - 06 August 2025 00:22

The country is gearing up for a large-scale collaboration strategy with the United States in the fields of natural resources and defense technology.

According to Ukrainian officials, in the coming years, Ukraine and the USA plan to implement three major projects related to mineral extraction, forming the basis of their partnership within the framework of the subsoil agreement.

This information was revealed following a recent discussion between Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko and US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, during which details of future investment initiatives were debated.

One of the key topics was the idea of establishing the American-Ukrainian Recovery Investment Fund, which, according to preliminary agreements, could expand its mandate over time to include investments in the military sector to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Additionally, the Ukrainian side raised the possibility of producing and selling Ukrainian drones, which could become an important element of the country’s defense strategy.

Sviridenko also emphasized the importance of increasing sanctions pressure and accelerating cooperation with international financial institutions to ensure economic stability and security for Ukraine.

She expressed gratitude to the USA for its consistent support and shared goal of establishing a just and sustainable peace in the region.

It was noted that the implementation of these agreements depends on the first investments from the US side, without which the future projects remain only on paper.

According to Ukrainian estimates, to realize these ambitious plans, Ukraine needs to attract between $5 and $10 billion or more in investments.
