Trump Plans Personal Meeting with Putin and Zelensky During Major Diplomatic Talks Next Week
In a surprising turn of world diplomacy, U.S.
President Donald Trump has announced his intention to visit Russia for a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week.
Sources close to his inner circle indicate that the idea is already under active discussion, and Trump reportedly communicated his plans to European leaders during phone conversations on Wednesday.
If realized, the upcoming meeting is expected to have a very limited format — involving only three participants: Trump, Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is noteworthy that European representatives have not yet been included in these negotiations, suggesting a focus on direct communication between the main stakeholders of the conflict.
Despite this, sources say European leaders have expressed support for focusing on a peaceful resolution.
Whether Putin and Zelensky will agree to this format remains unclear at this point.
The discussion also involved other key officials, including NATO Secretary General, Vice President J.D.
Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump’s special envoy Stev Vitkoff.
Trump confirmed on his social platform, Truth Social, that Vitkoff held several hours of talks with Putin in Russia, although he did not specify any future plans.
In his post, Trump emphasized that he informed European allies, and they all support quick steps to end the war, with plans to work on this in the coming days and weeks.
While some parts of the world seek avenues for peace, others remain on the sidelines or criticize recent developments.
It is worth recalling that earlier this year, Trump held a meeting with Zelensky in Rome during the funeral of Pope Francis.
French President Emmanuel Macron attempted to join that discussion at St.
Peter’s Basilica but was declined by Trump, who prefers one-on-one meetings.
Meanwhile, official representatives from the White House, Vitkoff, Vance, Rubio, and the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov have refrained from commenting.
Recently, Trump has been trying to create space for negotiations with Putin but has also publicly criticized the Russian leader, accusing him of stalling and prolonging the conflict.
