Zelensky Conducts Significant Phone Talk with Trump: Emphasizes Urgency of Ceasing War and Supporting Ukraine
On August 5th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in an extended phone conversation with former U.S.
President Donald Trump, during which they discussed critical issues confronting Ukraine and the international community amid over a year of ongoing conflict.
According to Zelensky, the discussion was highly productive and focused on the importance of rapidly and decisively ending hostilities.
The Ukrainian leader expressed heartfelt gratitude to Trump for his efforts and support in his pursuit of a just and lasting peace, emphasizing that the primary goal is to halt the bloodshed as quickly as possible and prevent further destruction of Ukrainian cities and communities.
Both leaders agreed that many months of warfare could have been avoided if Russia had not prolonged the conflict.
Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine and the United States coordinate their positions and exchange assessments, especially regarding the escalation of Russian strikes and their brutality targeting Kyiv and other Ukrainian towns.
Trump was fully informed about the situation and conveyed his support.
In addition, they discussed sanctions against Russia, joint European measures to assist Ukraine, and opportunities to deepen bilateral defense cooperation.
Zelensky also mentioned that Ukraine has already prepared a drone agreement draft and is ready for detailed negotiations and signing, emphasizing Kyiv’s intention to bolster military collaboration to safeguard the country and develop new mechanisms to counter Russian aggression.
