Kremlin Considers Temporary Ceasefire as a Political Maneuver – Bloomberg

Chas Pravdy - 05 August 2025 21:26

According to a reputable agency Bloomberg, the Kremlin is open to considering a scenario of a so-called ‘air truce,’ which could serve as a gesture of de-escalation in the ongoing war against Ukraine.

This is not the first attempt by the Russian leadership to use tactical pauses to achieve political objectives.

Sources reveal that Moscow is examining several concessions, including a potential suspension of air strikes using drones and missiles, as well as diplomatic negotiations that could be intensified if Ukraine signs relevant agreements.

Analysts believe this approach might be an attempt to counteract the pressure of sanctions from the United States and European countries.

Insiders add that the visit of American Special Envoy Steve Vítkoff to Moscow could create opportunities for reaching a compromise, even if the prospects of such a temporary truce remain uncertain.

Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin’s objectives in the war remain unchanged — Russia still does not agree to a full ceasefire or the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces.

Regarding recent developments, Donald Trump has been increasingly critical of Russia over the past few weeks, highlighting the impact of energy prices and the possibility of additional sanctions.

In his statements, he suggested that lowering energy prices could weaken Putin’s resolve and compel him to seek ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Additionally, he is considering imposing significant tariffs on Russian oil imports within the next 24 hours, which could seriously affect Russia’s economy and political landscape in the Kremlin.
