U.S. Implements New Weapon Supply Mechanism to Ukraine — Shmyhal

In a significant move to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, the United States, in cooperation with NATO, has launched a new scheme known as the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).

This innovative mechanism aims to expedite the delivery of modern military equipment and weaponry from the U.S.

directly to Ukrainian forces, thereby strengthening the nation's defense posture and contributing to the establishment of lasting regional stability and peace.

The initiative resulted from high-level agreements among Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S.

President Donald Trump, and NATO's new Secretary-General, Mark Rutte.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that PURL allows NATO member countries and partner nations to fund the transfer of U.S.

military aid through voluntary contributions, providing flexibility and swift assistance.

The Netherlands was the first to commit financial support, pledging €500 million for an initial military aid package that includes modern weapon systems.

The mechanism operates based on a coordinated list of Ukraine’s military needs, developed according to Ukrainian requests and approved by NATO’s European Commander-in-Chief.

Future aid installments are planned to be announced regularly, with logistics coordinated via existing NATO structures, including the NATO Security Assistance and Training to Ukraine program.

Previously, the Dutch government also announced plans to transfer U.S.

missile defense systems and related components valued at €500 million.

Additionally, Lithuania is planning to invest €30 million in air defense systems for Ukraine, underscoring international solidarity in support of Ukraine’s security efforts.
