Trump Announces Planned Tariff Hike Against India Over Russian Oil Resales
Former U.S.
President Donald Trump has made a surprising announcement regarding potential trade restrictions aimed at India.
According to his statements, the United States is preparing to significantly increase tariffs on imports from India as a response to the country's active role in reselling Russian oil.
Sources report that Trump shared this information via the social platform Truth Social, emphasizing that India is actively purchasing large volumes of Russian oil and then reselling it on open markets, profiting immensely from these transactions.
Furthermore, Trump accused India of being indifferent to the suffering in Ukraine, noting that the country shows no concern for the casualties among Ukrainian citizens and is not morally inclined to stop such dealings.
Analysts indicate that India has become the world's largest buyer of Russian oil, acquiring it via maritime routes at discounted prices and increasing its imports to nearly one-third of its total oil needs.
Additionally, Trump has hinted at the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions targeting countries purchasing Russian oil, explicitly singling out India and threatening further economic penalties.
Reports reveal that India's largest oil refinery has already purchased millions of barrels of oil from the USA and the UAE amidst the promise of high tariffs from Trump on Russian fuel buyers.
Steven Miller, one of Trump's most influential advisors and deputy chief of staff, also accused India of financing Russia's war against Ukraine.
