Trump’s Personnel Shake-up: Former Fox News Host Appointed as Federal Prosecutor in Washington, D.C.

Chas Pravdy - 03 August 2025 05:34

In a significant political move, the Donald Trump administration has once again reshuffled key positions within its ranks by appointing renowned pro-Republican former Fox News anchor Jeanne Pirro as the federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia.

The Senate vote, which confirmed her appointment, was strictly along party lines, with Democrats opposing the nomination—highlighting the partisan nature of the process.

The final tally was 50 votes in favor and 45 against, with several Senators, including Republican Mitch McConnell and Roger Vicker, abstaining from voting.Since May, Pirro has been serving as acting federal prosecutor, filling the role after being nominated by former President Trump, replacing conservative activist Ed Martin.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, praised her as a “powerful defender of crime victims” and an “incredibly qualified candidate” for the position.

Pirro is known for her vocal support of Trump and her past role as a TV host promoting conspiracy theories concerning election fraud after the 2020 presidential defeat.

Her name also figured prominently in a defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News, which was settled in 2023 for $787.5 million.Pirro’s career began in New York, where she worked as an assistant district attorney in Westchester County and later became the county’s first female District Attorney.

During her tenure, she established the country’s first domestic violence unit within the prosecutor’s office.

In 2005, she ran for the U.S.

Senate from New York to challenge Hillary Clinton but later aimed for the state’s attorney general position.

Her efforts were derailed by a federal investigation related to her secret recordings of her then-husband Albert Pirro, whom she suspected of infidelity. Her appointment reflects a broader trend of the Trump administration appointing media figures from Fox News to high governmental positions, including Defense Secretary Pyt Hegset and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, both former TV hosts.

Trump’s latest decisions continue to attract attention and controversy in political circles and public opinion, underscoring the close ties between media personalities and government appointments.
