Zelensky condemns corruption scandals in defense procurement and promises strict punishments

Chas Pravdy - 02 August 2025 21:13

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed deep concern regarding recent revelations of large-scale corruption within the defense sector.

During his evening address, he emphasized that the uncovered schemes by NABU and SAP on procurement of radio-electronic warfare (REW) systems and FPV drones are utterly immoral and unacceptable for a modern state.

The president stressed that those responsible must face full and fair punishment, and he thanked the anti-corruption agencies for their diligent work enabling the exposure of these abuses.

Zelensky also highlighted his anticipation of serious outcomes from the ongoing internal investigation within the National Guard, emphasizing that all logistics units should be managed exclusively by combat officers.

Additionally, he called on the Ministry to publicly disclose all details of the reform initiatives and new measures in the management system.

Background to the situation involves the uncovering of a scheme involving inflated prices during procurement procedures, involving deputies and military officials.

Notably, the investigation includes People's Deputy Oleksiy Kuznietsov from “Servant of the People,” head of Mukachevo RDA Serhiy Gaidai, and commander of Rubezhnaya MVA in Luhansk region Andriy Yurchenko, all currently under investigation.

Their positions and membership in the party have been temporarily suspended.

The Cabinet of Ministers has already announced plans to dismiss the head of Mukachevo RDA.

Zelensky calls for an objective and fair investigation to ensure accountability and to prevent similar abuses in the future.
