Verkhovna Rada Approves Century-Long Partnership Deal with the United Kingdom: A Long-Term Strategic Alliance for Ukraine’s Stability and Security

Ukraine is preparing for the signing of a historic agreement with the United Kingdom that will span a century and focus on expanding cooperation across defense, economy, science, and culture.

On August 2nd, the Verkhovna Rada’s official website announced Bill No.

0332, which aims to ratify this unique treaty initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Earlier, in January, the two nations finalized an unprecedented agreement marking the first step toward a long-term strategic partnership.This comprehensive deal opens a new chapter in bilateral relations, emphasizing significant enhancement of defense capabilities, including maritime and military sectors, as well as boosting collaboration in high-tech industries such as healthcare, agricultural innovations, aerospace, and drone development.

Additionally, the agreement foresees the development of joint educational and humanitarian initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural ties and fostering sustainable contacts.The British government stresses that this century-long partnership aims to serve as a foundation for long-lasting stability and security for Ukraine, reinforcing its resilience against external threats and aggression.

Key areas of cooperation include expanding defense collaborations, supporting Ukraine's NATO membership aspirations, strengthening maritime security, forging stronger trade and economic links, developing joint energy policies, advancing green economy initiatives, and tackling misinformation and external interference.Upon completion of national procedures, the agreement will come into force and will last for 100 years unless one party decides to terminate it.

The UK government has already outlined the key details and expressed its commitment to support Ukraine as an independent and sovereign nation over the next century, signaling its ambition to be a major player in global geopolitics.
