Republicans mock Trump with provocative post featuring Soviet-era car

Chas Pravdy - 02 August 2025 13:03

A recent post on a major social media platform in the United States has sparked widespread discussion and analysis across political and public circles.

The Republican Party of the USA shared a provocative message on its official account on the social network X, featuring an image of a Soviet-era VAZ 2101 car alongside the slogan “Let’s Make Cars Great Again.” The image depicts Donald Trump standing triumphantly in front of the vintage Soviet vehicle, with the caption suggesting that the new substantial legislation will help revive the image of the “great American car.” This seemingly simple gesture quickly drew attention from both domestic and international users, resulting in a wave of humorous and sarcastic comments.

Some of the remarks included: “Does the Republican Party admit that it belongs to Russia, since it used a Russian car?”, “American automotive industry heavily depends on imported materials and foreign investments, so this visual is quite telling,” among others.

Many users questioned whether the account was a parody, while others pointed out the contradiction in claims about reviving American auto manufacturing, given current tariffs and trade policies favoring imported vehicles.

Several comments also sarcastically pondered whether this was an attempt to parody political statements or a subtle way to criticize Trump’s policies.

Humor was also in the air: “So, are they planning to produce old Ladas in the USA now?” or “Are we returning to Soviet standards?” Experts see this incident as yet another reflection of the deep polarization within American political circles, where provocative posts and symbolic gestures are increasingly used as tools for attention-grabbing and manipulation.

Notably, Elon Musk has also publicly criticized the legislative proposal, calling it “a disgusting beast.” On July 4, President Trump signed a comprehensive budget bill extending tax breaks and gradually cutting Medicaid funding, which marked a significant legislative victory following tense negotiations on Capitol Hill.

Analysts argue that the current political climate in the U.S.

is characterized by turmoil and unrest, which often manifests in provocative messages and actions that further deepen the crisis of trust and political instability in the country.
