Nighttime Protest in Vinnytsia: Residents Demand Release of Detained Men Near Local Stadium

Chas Pravdy - 02 August 2025 01:53

On the night of August 1st, a large-scale protest erupted in Vinnytsia, spreading across the city center near one of the local stadiums.

Residents gathered to protest actions taken by the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TЦK), vocally opposing the detention of several men.

Witnesses reported that at the gates of the stadium, individuals believed to be detained earlier that day by TЦK officials were held.

Eyewitnesses also claimed that police used special equipment, including tear gas, to disperse the crowd.

The protest started around 11 pm and was attended by dozens of locals demanding the release of the detainees.

Participants stated that the men were detained during routine patrols and are now held on the stadium premises ‘Lokomotiv’.

Community activists expressed concern over the excessive use of force and unlawful searches.

One protester, Valentina, shared that her husband was reportedly detained early in the morning, taken for a military medical examination, and later transferred to the stadium area.

She noted that his phone was confiscated, and he was locked in a cell, with cries for help coming from the windows.

Demonstrators attempted to break into the enclosure to free him, but police dispersed the protesters and fired tear gas.

Currently, at least 11 police units are present at the scene, urging citizens to disperse due to the curfew, but the protest continues.

The situation has raised alarm among residents, as officials from TЦK and the police have yet to comment publicly.

This incident highlights significant tensions and raises questions about the legality and transparency of the detention process amid ongoing mobilization efforts.
